A monumental challenge

Less people have  rowed across an ocean than climbed Everest- and Shirley intends to be one of them,  to date only 15 women have ever rowed an ocean solo.

Shirley will row from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean island of St Bart’s, a journey of some 3000 nautical miles.

Her journey with take her around 90 days, and she will row in a Pure Class , 7m x 1.8 m rowing boat, RV Amigo.

Apart from the mental challenge of spending up to three months at sea and coping with sleep deprivation, Shirley may  encounter the following:

Freak waves

Sea sickness
Salt sores
Blisters
